About the Role
As Second Nature’s Principal Quality Assurance Engineer, you will play a critical role in defining and implementing our quality strategy. You will lead the QA team, establish best practices, and collaborate closely with development, product, and operations teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions. Your expertise in test automation, performance testing, and continuous integration will be instrumental in maintaining and improving the reliability of our systems.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive quality assurance strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Investigate and resolve complex quality issues, working with cross-functional teams to implement solutions.

Test Automation Expertise

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks, tools, and test suites.

Performance & Security Testing 

  • Establish and monitor key quality metrics to assess software performance and reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, product management, and DevOps teams to integrate testing into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Process Improvement

  • Define and enforce best practices for software testing, including functional, regression, performance, security, and usability testing.  
  • Participate in code reviews and advocate for best coding and testing practices.

Adaptability & Innovation 

  • Drive the adoption of modern testing methodologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency.
 

What to Expect in Your First 90 Days

30 Days: Learning & Assessment

  • Get familiar with Second Nature’s culture, mission, and key stakeholders.
     
  • Review the product architecture, QA strategies, and testing frameworks.
     
  • Assess current test automation, performance testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
     
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in testing methodologies.
     
  • Meet with development, product, and DevOps teams to understand pain points.
     
  • Start mentoring junior QA engineers and understand team dynamics.
     
  • Fix minor QA bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
     
  • Ensure test environments are up and running smoothly.
     
  • Ensure QA is operating to fullest capacity on our newest product offering
     

60 Days: Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop a roadmap to improve test automation, performance, and security testing.
     
  • Introduce best practices for software quality assurance.
     
  • Improve existing test frameworks or introduce new tools as needed.
     
  • Increase test coverage for key functionalities.
     
  • Optimize CI/CD pipelines for faster and more reliable releases.
     
  • Implement automated regression and smoke testing.
     
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact defects or process inefficiencies.
     
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive quality improvements.
     

90 Days: Scaling & Optimization
 

  • Establish key metrics for tracking QA success (e.g., defect leakage, test pass rate).
     
  • Optimize performance, security, and usability testing strategies.
     
  • Conduct training sessions to upskill the QA team.
     
  • Foster a culture of quality, automation, and innovation.
     
  • Implement AI/ML-driven testing strategies where applicable.
     
  • Identify long-term improvements in test infrastructure and scalability.
     
  • Demonstrate measurable improvements in software quality and release efficiency.
     
  • Ensure smooth collaboration between QA, engineering, and product teams.
 

About you

  • 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance 
  • 3+ years experience in a people management role
  • Strong expertise in automated testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG).
  • Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, LoadRunner).
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-based testing environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, Typescript).
  • Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of AI/ML-driven testing strategies and tools.
  • Familiarity with security testing and compliance standards (e.g., OWASP, PCI, SOC 2).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
